That was a purty good summation of our day Dana, I'm still laughing! And there was a valuable lesson there to be learned.
Things didn't start off to well with a missed fish, a good one, and then the battery problem. But man, what a 6.5 pounder can do to change yer day. At that point it was just time to go fishin and have some fun. And boy did we have it!
We left all the pressure of a tournament behind us and things just kinda clicked from there. And the fish were cooperating!
And the strangest thing was, up until the last 15 minutes, when we saw Bobby Delimeter, we never saw another tournament boat after Keith left us. And with all the music and laughter goin on, one would of thought we were to love birds out for a day on the water. Well the plan sure worked, as we had no followers the entire day due to our disguise.
But that frog fish was the ultimate. I kept telling Dana she was gonna get a shot at a big fish, and that hole she was pitchin into was CONDUCIVE. And it wasn't till after about 15 minutes of her thorough dissection of that opening, that I recalled our trigger talk of last week. So I picked up the frog and heave it to the matte beyond the open hole. Sat down and told her to do the same, wanted her to be able to see and my knee seemed like a conducive perch at the time. So we're sitting and I twitch it into the opening and let it sit. Then we start counting. After the first 10 I gave that frog enough of a twitch just to turn it sideways. Nothing. Then we counted some more and I gave it another twitch. Now I don't know if Dana saw it, but I saw that sucker come running out from the weeds like a bullet, then Ker-Splash!
We both jumped clear out of that seat and I grabbed her by the arm and the fight was on. I never really got a good hook set and this fish moved about 20 feet and then came off. But it was too perfect to my description of how to trigger a strike! We sat there and laughed for about 10 minutes until our hearts stopped pounding!
Oh and let me correct her on her net jobs though, she never stumbled once. Folks this Bass Lady can net with the best of em, she's quick to the net and accurate on the scoop, then boom! In the boat. Serious business! She can fish with me anytime!
There were many highs and lows to this day. My biggest thrill was, as I was walking through the parking lot, from the boat to meet the gang, Dana comes bouncing up to me with the biggest white grin I have ever seen. She asked me if I had stopped my bitchen and then out of the blue tells me, "Did ya hear the rumor, We Won." "No way!" I couldn't believe it! It took the entire walk back to the gang, for her to convince me, before it really sunk in, we had indeed pulled it off, and won. Stogie time!
There is only one way to win this particular team tournament, you have got to fish it with a total team effort. And these 12 Nutcases did just that. This is a great triumph and we all should be very proud! We exemplified the very essence of the NCBF Web site!
