Me and Scott started out with a truly fun ride, well that is if you have a steering wheel to hold on to.That Scott sure is fun to fish with, I looked over once and he was holding on with one hand and pretending to lasso something with the other.
After the wild ride across the usual rough river we headed into Franks tract where the throttle cable decided to come unmounted from its bracket at the cowling, slowing down the engine to 4,000 rpms,I'm thinking at this rate we would never get to our destination. We stopped out in the tract and I pulled off the cowl to see if a wire or something had come off during Scott's calf roping ride,..nope couldn't really tell anything at this point, with the cowl back on we start taking off and Pat and Angel pulls up to see if we are all right(thanks guys). we wave them on and off we go,this time we can get 4700 rpms and I decide to go for it.
Our first spot didn't pan out as most peoples didn't.Scott put the first one in the boat, then I managed another, then Scott nails this 4.05....hey things are lookin up but to no avail we managed one more squeaker and that made four, off to the next hole (25) min north feeling a little behind I made a quick check and found our problem with the cable and off we go.
At somewhere around Mach 5 we come around a big bend and there is Phil and Angel doing calistentics on the rear deck, waving and carrying on I figured that they had toaded out so I pull my foot out of the carbs and its left full rudder to go back to see what's up. Not good there down and it looks hopeless.we tow them to with-in a reachable trolling distance of Tiki lagoon and decide they're done and we're 1 fish short....Phil says cut the rope and go get a biggun,(sorry guys I feel like a heel for not towing you all the way) but I guess it all worked out.
Next spot we manage our last and final keeper, and then it was off to the wild ride back across the river, the cable bracket pops loose again and were down to 4300 but we keep going deciding we have enough time to get back if it will continue at this speed,it does and we get back in time to fish the small stuff around the Hook.
We weigh-in and I start hearing stories about how the scales are screwed up and our weight along with Dana and Cooch's comes up light, I get a little upset and decide to load and head for home,I get home and work on the boat and fix the problem and I get a phone call from Cooch saying we had one I told him nice try but I wasn't in a humorous mood. He then gets real serious and explains we had won by 4 or 5 pounds.
I couldn't believe it. thanks to all,I had a great time and hope to do another won, thanks to everyone who helped and didn't fish( I'm terrible with names) and Dana and Cooch for the colors. Scott may have a few words to add so I'll stop here
......see ya at Clear lake.....Micster
