I'll fish with Micster any day. Even with the E ticket ride that put the big motor out of the water more than in it.
Our first spot did not pan out as well as last weekend. Last weekend we got 6 fish and culled in about 30 mins. This time, it was nothing, nada, zippo for the first 45 mins.....not even a dink. Why was it UNconducive? We figured out it was cuz the owner had dredged up a corner of the area and the outgoing was pulling the mud with it. We switched to cranks and traps and I put a couple of dinks in the boat when Micster finally sticks our first keeper. Micster is up 3 keepers to my none when I get the 4+ on. But it's stuck in the weeds. Micster pulls the boat up, leans over and grabs my line to pull the fish out of the weeds and shouts "holy $h*t, it's a big biggun". We get it in the boat and he's all apologetic for pulling my line with that size fish. Heck, I didn't care...it was in the live well. But no more fish there. We gotta move.
We run to the next spot....about a 20 min run normally but who knows how long now with the throttle problems. We find Angel and Phil and start towing them. Phil says "we gotta do what's best for the team" but Micster and I can't leave them there with a ski boat using them for a slalom buoy.
We get them close, wish them luck, then on we go. When we get there Micster can see a 5-7# female sitting there, but she's spooky as all get out. The male won't move, so Micster sticks him and in the live well he goes for our 5th fish at about 1030. That was it. Only 5 keepers all day. But it's a limit.
When we get back to the Hook, we aren't feeling real good. The scales being off on our estimate made us feel cheated on our weight. I think most of us at Lauritzen's were kinda so-so on how we did and didn't think it was enough. Lesson learned: never give up. It ain't over til it's over. It was a tough bite and we did just enough to out-do the others.
My first win. My first plaque at something other than a club tourney. Makes me proud I did it with such a great group. I did this to learn the Delta waters and techniques a little more than what my club members can offer. But I also learned that team work can be CONDUCIVE.
Cooch was right in a post from long ago.....we work as a team we can do it. The others will be fishing as individuals on a team...and that didn't work for them.
Thanks everyone.
